Mission

The NCI Biobank, as part of the Translational Research Unit of the Faculty of Medicine of Comenius University and the National Oncology Institute (NCI), represents a key research infrastructure for comprehensive oncological research. It focuses on the systematic collection, pre‑analytical processing, and long‑term, highly organized storage of biological samples obtained from oncology patients within extensive and thoroughly clinically annotated cohorts. Through purpose‑built collections, the biobank provides a stable foundation for the implementation of translational research projects aimed at the identification and validation of novel biomarkers, assessment of treatment responses, and investigation of the mechanisms underlying cancer development and progression. By integrating high‑quality biological samples with comprehensive clinical and research data, the biobank supports the advancement of precision and personalized medicine while strengthening the active involvement of the National Oncology Institute in national and international research consortia and infrastructures.
